Preparing for 2007

December 28, 2006

Lar,

This post coincides with my final “Weekly Word” over at seekhim.org. Essentially, I wrote about preparing for the New Year. In particular I emphasized setting certain and specific goals that we would like to see happen in 2007. I wanted to post two particular resources that I have helped me tremendously in my thinking. They are not ‘Christian’ in the way we would think, but I don’t think that matters much in this regard. I found them to be very helpful.

t_16175_01.gifThe first is a book by a man named David Allen called, Getting Things Done. Lar, you have heard me speak about this book time and again, so you know what a difference it has made in my life. Actually, it was close to my top ten! Organization and productivity are still not my specialties, but I’m growing in grace and praying for much more. This book will help tremendously. You can also learn more at his website. www.davidco.com

The second thing I would recommend in a short ‘webinar’ by a man named David Lakhani. Again, nothing Christian, but some really good practical stuff on goal setting. I would highly recommend this to everyone. The simple questions he has you ask regarding specific goals was a big one for me. I plan to use it personally for the rest of my days unless I find something better. The ‘webinar’ can be listened to and viewed here.

That’s it for now brother. I really would encourage everyone to look at their upcoming year and properly plan for how they are going to make the best use of it. “Look carefully then as you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15). No one changes and/or reaches their respective goals by accident! So no one makes the best use of God’s time by accident either. Let us labor to be faithful to the glory of His name!

Seeking to make the most of my time (and year) to the glory of our great God,

Joe
