Our Vision - What we want to see.

So we more or less gave our vision away in the final paragraph of our previous page (Our Burden). In essence, our big vision is to see the Church (and therefore, local churches) glorify God by becoming all that she (and they) can and ought to be through Jesus. And our particular ministry vision is to serve this great end by spreading a passion for the Savior as we call all people to wholeheartedly seek Him.

Now, considering the fact that no one in the history of the world has been able to perfect such a vision, we know that we will not be the first. In this life, sin certainly inhibits the worship of the Savior. Yet we do not lose hope. For even though we falter and fail in many respects, God does not. What is more, God uses weak and imperfect people to make known His strength and His perfection. Some may think that such truth is incredibly humbling. Well, it is. But humility is good, because God is great. It is all about Him, and it is only when we recognize and have been gripped by that reality that we can find true joy and significance and power.

Not only that, but it is only when we recognize how great God is that we can enjoy playing even a small part in His work of redemption. Even more, it is only when we recognize how great God is that we can look forward and petition the Lord to use us for even greater things.

What are these greater things you ask? We offer just one (for now)….

1) Personal and corporate revival. Ray Ortlund Jr. has said, “Revival is a season in the life of the church when God causes the normal ministry of the gospel to surge forward with extraordinary spiritual power.” Such a definition makes it plain that revival is dependent upon God. No amount of utilized means guarantees that God will show up to His Church in power. The Lord does what seems good to Him. And what seems good to Him is good. Our vision is to see our good God revive His Church, so that she might glorify Him by becoming all that she ought to and can be by His power.

With that being said, however, we must also emphasize the fact that although certain means do not guarantee revival, they are certainly used by God in the normal course of personal and corporate growth and in revival itself. The Word (proclaimed publicly and meditated upon privately) and prayer are central to this work. Therefore, our vision is to call individual Christians and local Churches back to these basics as they seek Him.

Yes…seek Him. There is our name and there is our vision. We want to spread a passion for Jesus Christ by calling all people to wholeheartedly seek Him. We want to see Christians (and thus, the local churches composed of Christians) hunger and thirst for the Lord. We want to see Jesus pursued and the people of God excited about the glory of God. Whether God sees fit to come in revival power, we cannot be sure. But we can be sure that He blesses those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). We can be sure that to those who seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, He will grant faithful provision and great grace (Matthew 6:33).

Therefore, we emphasize the pursuit. We envision individual Christians and local bodies who diligently search the Scriptures and petition the Lord for His blessing (both alone and together). We envision God showing up to a people prepared. We envision bold, brokenhearted people who hunger and thirst for Jesus with a joy-filled, holy discontentment that has already tasted and seen how good He is. We envision churches and homes that are radically God-centered. We envision people who daily go before the Lord in the Word and prayer. We envision Christians who genuinely long for God’s rule and reign to be made manifest over all the earth. We envision a people who are known to have been with Jesus (Acts 4:13), a people who are known to go hard after God.

Who is sufficient for these things? Surely not us in our own strength. But with God all things are possible! We are burdened to see God glorified through His church. And we are convinced that He is greatly exalted through a people who seek Him. Therefore, no matter what we do, no matter what we say, our aim is to faithfully point the way to Jesus. Whether preaching or blogging or training or whatever, we want to stir and equip Christians to faithfully pursue God as they ought. Here then is our emphasis and vision. May the Lord see fit to grant us much grace.
